STARRING IN CONTRADICKTION
WITH SAME CIRCLE THEATRE
Contradicktion is a one-man-show performed by me, co-written by myself and Sean Climie and produced by Same Circle Theatre.

Contradicktion follows the coming out story of James, a masters music student who has just come out as queer... but beyond that, has no idea how to identify. After doing what he perceives as being 'the hard bit', he is gearing up for his first ever night out as a queer individual - and it's New Year's Eve! Pretty soon he comes to the conclusion that he is doing queerness wrong, he's not dressing correctly, he's not behaving correctly and he's not pursuing the right lifestyle.

Developed through conversations, workshops and focus groups with LGBTQIA+ people across the North of England, Contradicktion highlights the very harsh reality that while the LGBTQIA+ community has to deal with a lot of issues from those outside of it, a lot of the problems start with those within it. Contradicktion aims to hold a mirror up to the community and challenge people to check themselves, think about their own behaviours and create more inclusive, safe spaces for queer people to be just that... queer people.
